The Story

Built in the shadow of the Redwoods.

Redwood Summit sits inside the Redwood Park development in Rotorua — moments from the Whakarewarewa Forest, one of the world’s great mountain biking destinations and home of Crankworx Rotorua.

We're building two properties designed around the rhythm of the ride: wake in the forest, roll out onto 180+ km of trails, return to a spa-warmed recovery lounge and a crew dinner under timbered ceilings.

Every detail — from the bike vault to the wash bay to the views from your bed — is there because it earns its place for riders.

The Trails

Known locally as "the Redwoods," Whakarewarewa Forest is regularly ranked among the best mountain biking destinations on earth. Loamy volcanic soil, towering Californian redwoods planted over a century ago, and a trail network built by riders, for riders.

From flowy green descents to world-cup gnarly black lines, everything a rider wants is within pedaling distance of the door. Rotorua is also the host city of Crankworx — the pilgrimage for every serious MTB enthusiast.

When will Redwood Summit be open for bookings?

Construction is underway and we're targeting an opening in 2027. Register your interest to be notified first and get priority for direct bookings.

How close are the mountain bike trails?

Redwood Summit sits within the Redwood Park development — the Whakarewarewa Forest trail network is effectively on your doorstep. Roll out from the property and into the trees.

How many people can stay?

The Lodge is designed to comfortably sleep 8+ across multiple bedrooms — ideal for crews, teams, and extended groups. The Cottage is more family-scaled; final configurations will be confirmed closer to opening.

Is there secure bike storage?

Yes. A purpose-built bike vault on-site, plus a workshop-grade wash station with hose, stands, lighting, and tools. Bring your best build without worry.

What about recovery between rides?

A dedicated recovery area with an outdoor hot spa overlooking the forest. Warm water, cold air, and a view of the canopy you were riding through an hour earlier.

Are there two separate properties?

Yes — Redwood Summit Lodge (our premium, rider-focused flagship) and Redwood Summit Cottage (a calmer, family-oriented residence). Book one, or both for larger groups.

Will you be on Airbnb?

We plan to list on Airbnb and similar platforms, but will also provide direct bookings. Register your interest to get direct-booking access first.

Where exactly is the property?

Rotorua, New Zealand — within the Redwood Park development, immediately adjacent to the Whakarewarewa Forest. Rotorua Airport and the city centre are both a short drive away.
